23 Nov - SSG Hess departed DT for site commanders meeting. Upon arriving --- personnel were getting prepared for an expected mortar attack. -- almost went turned around and went back to DT.
26 Nov - SSG Hess medevaced to PK for eyes again.
1 Dec - Col. Richards, Maj Mardi, Capt Chitren, Lt Dewitt and SFC Welch visited DT site. They seemed pleased with the overal opns and Col Richards gave the men a well earned thank you for a job well done. Maj Marti suggested that the site could be better policed and personal gear could be neater.
2 Dec - SSG Hess returned to DT site. Charley didn't mortar during my absence. Dust is terrible. Men still very busy as we continue to have 1000 to 1500 opns daily. Not much site progress due to high number of daily opns.
3 Dec - DT donated a case of apples and a few other goodies to an orphanage at KT operated by Dr. Smith. Gave site a good police call but the choppers blow it in faster than we can pick it up.
4 Dec - Maj Marti visited DT site three times to bring supplies and remove parts from GCA 009. SSG McGlassion visited DT with Maj Marti. I believe the purpose of his visit was to spy and see what he could use from our supplies. He was closely guarded by SP5 Smith so he didn't see much.
5 Dec - DT site acquired enough lumber to complete the new hootch. Some partitions have been installed in the old hootch and daily we continue to improve our living conditions. Heavy volume of traffic still continues and the dust gets worse day by day. Our supply system here at DT site still functioning quite well.
6 Dec - Men working like mad to complete the new hootch so they can move out of the tent. Three new fire fighters arrived today and the three that are here from Nha Trang will return to their home unit today. Site acquired an old conex to use for storage. Site improvements continue.
7 Dec - 1110 Hrs south POL caught on fire and the old and new firemen responded in an excellent manner and soon had the fire extinguished with slight damage to POL equipment. New men gained some valuable experience. Site improvements and work on new hootch continue at an accellerated rate. Site will soon take on a new appearance.
8 Dec - Continued normal oprations and site improvements. Site is a mess but improving. One of the dustiest days I've seen at DT. A 105 mm Battery moved in about 20 meters to our rear, no sleep for a few nights.
9 Dec - 1st Cav to our rear departed this morning at 0700 hrs leaving many good items behind which will soon be property of DT site. PFC Slaughter visited DT today. We welcome his visit anytime. Air Force O1E made an emergency landing and the crash truck -- was standing by. All OK. Fire fighters were also called to the trash dump to extinguish a burning trailer. PSP sidewalks installed front and rear. SP5 Ennis transplanted grass by front walk. Still very dusty. Still heavy volume of traffic. Dust Off borrowed hand held parachute flares from DT Tower so that he could land at an LZ to pick up medevacs and upon returning said they worked beautifully.
10 Dec - Rather a lazy day at DT site. Men worked pretty hard all week so let them rest and work at whatever they want to do. Mr. Tom Morley visited us today. No beer for him. Site acquired a second conex today. In the process of building shelves in them so we should have enough storage room shortly.
11 Dec - Moved Class I into rear of old tent so the men can work on the new hootch. New firemen will install 155mm cannisters on the remaining portion of the runway. Contacted Bde S4 and when needed they will dispatch a fuel truck to fill runway lights. Today DT also acquired some lumber. have 2x4, 2x8, 2x12, will trade for 1x6, 1x8, 1x12. don't need to trade for 1x6's. We also acquired 270 ea. 1x6's.
12 Dec - DT site now has lumber - it will be put to good use. If present volume of traffic continues, we will have over 30,000 operations this month at DT. Maj Marti visited DT site bringing repair parts and some goodies for Christmas and some instructions from C.O. Maj was well pleased with operations and site improvements. Hope to have the site looking much better on his next visit. 119 Gunship made an emergency landing at DT after being hit and the firemen responded in an excellent manner. Went to the MACV village which is on limits. Found a barber shop so we can keep neatly trimmed now. SP6 Berry, 85th E.O.D., gave the ment at DT an hour and 20 minute class on the dangers of handling different types of ordnance, some of Charlie's favorite booby traps. Class was very interesting and did the troops a lot of good. Immediately after the class, several items mysteriously appeared in front of the E.O.D. tent. Traffic still heavy, nights getting colder, dust getting worse every day still the morale remains very good.
13 Dec - More girl scout cookies. Bless their little hearts. Normal operations continue plus site clean up and improvements. Gunship on south ramp fired minigun into ammo at N.E. revetments. Small fire was started in powder. Fire crew went to the scene and put out the fire. MP's at the scene of the incident so I will not make a report. I am quite proud of the men. They continue to work very hard to improve the site and their living conditions. Everyone in the area seems to think that we are the Central Highlands Gen. Hardware. Many people want to bum our supplies that were so difficult to come by. May even have to post a guard tonight. On 11 Dec, SP5 Severence departed DT for ETS. We all wish him the best of luck. Also SP5 Ennis departed DT in preparation for Sp/Lv. May he accomplish all he had planned while in the land of the big P.X. On this date, 13 Dec, DT experienced one of the windiest and dustiest days I have ever seen. At 1840 hrs Charles struck again so it's back to flak vest and bunkers. 70 to 80 mortar rounds landed in the Special Forces area, 4th Div. and Artillery tent area and in the parking revetments to our west. The good Lord surely has his arms around us here at DT site. Charles has hit every area of the airfield but ours. May our good luck continue. SP4 martin and SP5 White remained in the tower.
14 Dec - Gave the site a good police call. Continued with site improvements. Removed the E.O.D. tent and cleaned the area up. Put one more layer of PSP on the bunker and will put one more layer of sand bags on the bunker. Men will soon move into the new hootch. Rather a nice day at DT. Not much wind and not too dusty for a change. No mortars.
15 Dec - Today began with mail which always makes the men and myself feel good. Maj Brown and Capt Larson, (U.S. Air Force) visited DT site to coordinate the arrival and departure of C-130's as we will have many of them coming in today. SP4 Theobald departed DT for Dragon Mtn. Hope he likes the change and good luck to him. SP5 Smith also departed DT today --. We all wish him luck at his next site. SP4 Bartlett departed on emergency leave. Nights getting colder, days dustier and traffic remains quite heavy.
16 Dec - Continued normal operations and work on the site. PFC Short coming along very good. He will soon be an "A" controller.
17 Dec - Let the men sleep in this morning until 0900 hours. Men are working very hard to complete the new hootch. They should be moved in tomorrow. Maj Mazychek (Mazeke), 1st Bde Sr and Msg Gibbs from 15th Aerial Port visited the site. In a few days the Air Force will be guests on DT site. They are presently living too close to the ASP and must move so will let them move into the old tent. Got the new hootch sandbagged today and put another layer on top of the bunker. Firemen were dispatched to two brush fires to the north hook pad where some 4.2 mortars were burning and they stood by for two medevac planes so we have had a pretty busy day here at DT. During this reporting period everyone at DT has been very busy and several things were accomplished at DT site in addition to performing the mission. The volume of traffic remains quite heavy. To date we have had 22,048 operations this month. Personnel from 85th E.O.D. remain to be our guests at DT site. We are happy they continue to stay with us. We will soon need larger generators to operate DT site during the hours of darkness. Don't presently know where they will come from but I'm sure we will get them.
During this reporting period the volume of air traffic at DT remains heavy. From 1 to 17 Dec we have had 22,048 operations. Working with our limited facilities here at DT, the men continue to perform the mission of Mobile Team 2 with professionalism expected by the 1st Plt and 125th ATC. During this reporting period, we underwent only one mortar attack so in addition to performing our assigned mission, the following projects were completed or are nearing completion at DT:
  1. 3 rooms were constructed in the old hootch.
  2. New hootch is partitioned and nearing completion
  3. Enough lumber and materials were acquired to complete most planned projects.
  4. Tent E.O.D. was using was removed and the area cleaned up.
  5. An additional layer of PSP and sandbags were placed on top of the bunker.
  6. The new hootch was sandbagged.
  7. Two conex containers were acquired and many items have been stored in them. Still more items to be put in them.
  8. Most misc. items laying around the site have been removed to a storage yard at the west end of our site and neatly stacked instead of strewn about the site.
  9. Office was cleaned out.
  10. Sky Control sign was put back up.
  11. Foam cans were neatly stacked and fire extinguishers lined up.
  12. Site was given a good police and general clean up.
Overall, this has been a very busy and productive month at Dak To site. The men have all worked long hard hours to perform our assigned mission and improve our site and living conditions. The men's attitude, willingness to work and their performance in all areas makes me very proud to be their site commander.

The following is a list of projected projects at Dat To:
  1. Roof and shutter old hootch.
  2. As soon as all men have a decent place to live I will build a site office and quarters for myself.
  3. Complete the shower and wash stand.
  4. Build a new three holer.
  5. Re-sandbag generator shed and erect protection for generators by the tower or move generators to the shed and run wire to the tower.
  6. Enclose base of tower for storage.
  7. Raise electrical wiring in some places and bury it in other places.
  8. Move beacon and antenna.
  9. Build a dog house for Whiskey between the two hootches and sandbag.
  10. Many other things that need to be done on site.
